Super Mario 64 DS - By Helljumper44
If you got your old Super Mario 64 game cartridge, took a hammer to it, and somehow made it fit into your DS, Super Mario 64 DS is exactly what you'd get. Seriously, it's as if someone grabbed a hammer and smashed the fun out of the game, just to make it fit.
SM64DS is "extended" with "more characters" and "new abilities". Well, those new characters can go suck a lemon. I don't want to play as Wario or Luigi. Give me back my man in the red cap. What they've done is made it so that only Wario can become Metal, only Luigi can go invisible, and only Mario can... well.. he can become a slow-moving balloon with absolutely no purpose whatsoever. This only serves to irritate me in an already irritating game.
The amount of horrible mustache-related jokes and ridiculously dismal control options are only the beginning. Using the touch screen to move works epically bad, the only other option being the use of the 4-way directional pad which is even worse. The controls don't even work for the player who chooses to use the touch screen for movement, changing the D-pad to the buttons for crouch, jump and attack, confusing you immensely.
Your punch has this enormous amount of time between you pressing the button and damage being done. I've been hurt by Goombas because of this douchebaggery.
The only apparent positive is the presence of Mini-games which Nintendo saw fit to make unlock able only to those fast enough to catch those annoying bunnies hopping around the castle. Needless to say that the feat is almost impossible as Wario, and pointless unless you want sh*tty games of chance or memory puzzles with either Luigi or Yoshi.
The new "Multiplayer" is sub-par. I think that's all I need to say on the matter.
All in all; a disappointment. Not that I really had high expectations for it. After all, not many successes have come from translating old games to new platforms. The old Super Mario 64 was a classic, and always will be. For someone who simply wants to play that, I say get SM64DS. 'Coz that's all you'll be getting. I warn you, though, prepare to be frustrated beyond your wildest comprehension. If you want more, then you're looking at the wrong game, kid.
2/10, plus a facepalm for failure.
