Guitar Hero III - By Helljumper44
Hello, and welcome to my review of Guitar Hero 3. Let's keep it short and sweet. Basically, this game is exactly what we've seen before, just with new songs, shiny new graphics, a couple fresh characters and DRAGONFORCE!!!!!!

If this game did not have the song "Through the Fire and Flames", it would have sucked. Hard. Luckily for RedOctane, however, Dragonforce allowed them use of their amazing talents to save GH3. The number of quality songs populating GH3 is alarmingly low, the vast majority already having been used up for GH1 and 2.

One of GH3's selling points is the presence of Boss Battles. These are ridiculous. The goal of these battles is to cause your opponent to fail the song by using "Battle Powers" on them. Now, the perplexing thing is the level of which RedOctane do not understand simple cause and effect. Here we go:
>for every note you miss, your "rock" meter goes down.
>therefore the more notes there are, the more notes you're likely to miss.
>the more notes you miss, the faster your rock meter goes down.
>the faster your rock meter goes down, the quicker you fail.
With me so far?
>The harder the song, the more notes there are.
You get where I'm coming from?

When you have a hard song with heaps of notes, that's more notes for your enemy to miss and a quicker downfall for them. Basically, when you have a guitar battle on, say, Easy, it's insanely more difficult than a guitar battle on Hard. This retardation of the difficulties is annoying. Extremely annoying.

Sure GH3's got new graphics, but I would throw them all away for the chance to play all the classic GH1 & 2 songs. The glimmering notes do not make up for the general lack of good music in a game where music is the key element. The only redeeming points are Dragonforce, as well as a guitar version of "Devil Went Down To Georgia", both of which are awesome songs.

Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock is meant to make you feel like a legend upon its completion. Something that, I think, it did surprisingly well when I look back. The ending was excellent, given the lack of a complex storyline. I'm not going to spoil it for you, but suffice to say that it is quite epic. Almost as epic as 300. Not quite though. In closing, a good game. If you like the song choices, then you'll probably like the rest of what GH3 has to offer. It was probably a bit easy, though, and tended to have a bit too much leniency for notes hit too slow or too fast. I look forward to more download-able content, though. 6.5/10
